SOFIA GOMEZ, LMFT

I work with adults, teens, and couples who want to improve their relationships with others and with themselves. Many of my clients are thoughtful, capable people who have spent years wondering why they feel so reactive, why closeness can feel so complicated, or why they keep leaving relationships feeling anxious, ashamed, resentful, or alone.

Therapy with me is both relational and practical. We’ll work to understand the experiences that shaped the way you protect yourself, respond to others, and make sense of your own needs. I work particularly well with people navigating Borderline Personality Disorder or traits, anxiety and depression, relational trauma, and relationship difficulties. I integrate Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) with deeper insight-oriented work to help insight become real change.

Therapy can feel vulnerable and awkward, but I really believe it doesn't have to feel stiff. Warmth, honesty, and curiosity are just as important to me as humor and real talk. I believe meaningful change happens not only through insight, but through the experience of feeling understood while also being challenged to grow in new ways. MY BACKGROUND

I have a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Harvard University and a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Southern California. Before becoming a therapist, I was a consultant at Deloitte Consulting, primarily working in the healthcare M&A space.

My childhood years were spent moving internationally, and I’ve lived throughout the US, most recently moving to Los Angeles after my years as a consultant in New York City. As an immigrant and career changer, I understand the challenges of navigating different worlds and environments while staying true to yourself.

MY CLINICAL APPROACH

I blend compassionate support with practical, evidence-based approaches and tools

My approach blends practical, evidence-based strategies with deep inner work. As a trauma-informed therapist, I draw primarily from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and also integrate psychodynamic, mindfulness, attachment-focused, and IFS-informed principles, tailoring my approach to best meet each client’s needs.

This combination supports the development of tactical tools for managing crisis moments, regulating overwhelming emotions, and improving relationships, while deepening the self-awareness needed to support lasting change.

MY CLIENTS DESCRIBE ME AS…

Warm, collaborative, direct, and perceptive

I aim to create a space where you feel heard and understood. I ask the hard questions with respect, compassion, and, when it fits, a bit of humor. Being truly witnessed is a deeply vulnerable experience. I respect the effort it takes to show up in session each week, and my commitment to you is to be fully present with you and bring the best of my training, experience, and intuition to supporting you in reaching your goals.
